in recent dissections of education, three controversial topics have been about campus security, advisement and preparing students to go to college. first of all, when stepping into school students should feel safe. over past years there have been school shootings, and it has taken a huge toll. ever since those school shootings have happened students would start to feel worried and start to think “what if”. the school’s job is to have enough security guards as well as having security guards that know what they’re doing so they can keep the school safe. second of all, when students first step into a new school they tend to look for guidance and that’s what advisor is for. advisement is to help students and to guide them in the right direction. we don’t need an advisor that can’t do their job well or don’t even make an effort to help out a student. and finally, prepare students for college. many college students aren’t really prepared to take college-level classes and his issue can cause students to drop out. there should be a program to help students to be better prepared so they can succeed. and also give the student more confidence in themselves that they can amount to anything they put their minds to. based on my research and experience with advisement it’s important to have. advisement is there to help those who may have any questions or needs. also, they need to be able to answer most of the questions students may have when it comes down to taking the right classes or even making sure their on the right track towards graduation. the advisor i had in high school was the greatest, she helped me with any questions i had. she also made sure I was doing alright in all of my classes and she also made sure I was on the right track towards graduation.we also need advisors who care about the students. and preparing students for college is also important. students should experience college-level classes because it would better help understand what college has to offer and what is expected of them. in high school, I had some teachers and even my parents tell me what college was all about and they also prepared me so I could be successful in college. every student deserves a chance to succeed in college. and with campus security students should be able to feel safe anywhere they may go especially a place they attend all the time. my experience with security wasn’t really all that great. people were able to sneak in and wouldn’t even have to show ID to get in, then I thought to myself that anybody could get in without even trying. to me, security is the backbone to the school, and everyone has the right to feel safe.
