Freire main idea

  1. Freire argues about two different types of education concepts that involves different ways of teaching between the two. One of the concepts Freire talked about was the banking concept, which is basically about how things are taught to students. The banking concept shows how teachers shove information to their students without them fully understanding the material, the students would have to memorize the material with no questions asked. Teachers would abuse their way of power towards teaching by making the students feel ignorant, also the teacher’s power comes from the learning process and the students would have to listen and follow school rules. the problem-posing concept shows how teachers and students are equal and are in one accord. teachers and students get the benefits of teaching one another. learning should be a fun experience for the student as well as the teacher. this also shows how the students can be interactive with each other and even the teacher and it makes it a fun and comfortable environment to learn new things and to understand new things.
  2. banking concept quotes
  •  “ narration (with the teacher as the narrator) leads the student to memorize mechanically the narrated account. Worse yet it turns them into “containers’ and “receptacles” to be filled by the teacher. The more completely she fills the receptacles, the better the teacher she is. The more meekly the receptacles permit themselves to be filled, the better students they are”

2a.      problem-posing quotes

  • “the teacher is no longer merely the-one-who-teaches, but one who is himself taught in dialogue with the students, who in turn while being taught also teach”

3.     in elementary school certain topics that were being taught to me I needed extra guidance so there would be people that would come to the classroom and take me to another room. as I’m in the other room, they spend extra time with and explain everything step by step until I get it.
